Debate - My Opinion on Other Group's Debates

Hello! So on 31st July 2018 our class had done debates on certain topics. This is my analysis on those topics

1st Group Topic : Should the Government Nationalize Freeport?

• Pro : The supporting group said that if the government can nationalize Freeport it can give a huge income for Indonesia which may help the people in Papua to further prosper their lives and that it is time to take over Freeport.
• Contra : The opposing group said that Indonesia is not ready yet to take over Freeport. They said that even if we take over Freeport there are lots of corrupt people in the government and fear that if we take over it, then it will only give advantage to the government, not to the people. Aside from that, Indonesia is not ready in terms of machinery and resources.
• My Opinion : I'm a bit mixed up in these things, but I think we should probably just work things out bit by bit, like gradually increasing the ownership until we are ready to take it over.

3rd Group Topic : Game Addiction is unhealthy according to WHO

•  Pro : The supporting group said that it is unhealthy because it cause addiction that lead people to abandon their homework, task, and even their daily needs. There is also unhealthy competition among game creators that tried to make us play and play more in other word, they're striving to make more profits, eventually driving the players to school dropouts, anti-social, social anxiety, etc. 
• Contra : The opposing group said that games can actually train our brain to do multitasking, there are lots of games that encourage us to think out of the box i.e. brain exercise, there's also lots of games that requires quite some skills. In addition, even in our school some of the smartest students are gamer and it shows that games don't really distract students from learning.
• My Opinion : Talking generally, to me, the good and bad of every actions depend on how people do it. In this case, games are good cause it can train our brain and increase our skills on some aspects but if we're overdoing it, then it is bad.

4th Group Topic : Economic Growth After 1998

• Pro : The group that supported this topic has some reasons, which are; first, comparing these days to back in the times of 1998, today's gros product are increasing and inflation that had happened ever since '98 decreased. Second, infrastructures around Indonesia are getting more and more advanced. There's also changes in terms of politics which is different regulation of election. Also, there're lots of people that said nowadays US dollar are increasing and corruption are spreading more widely, but in fact, US dollar are increasing around the world, not only in Indonesia and that corruption had already happened way before reformation.
• Contra : The opposing group stated that the economic growth after 1998 aren't getting better. They said that corruption are spreading more widely and back before 1998, Indonesia is the only southeast asian country to join OPEC which shows that Indonesia's economic status was better back then.
• My Opinion : From my perspective, there are the good and bad in every era. I can't straightforwardly say that economic growth after 1998 are worsening because, there are a lot of improvement ever since 1998. Perhaps not everyone can feel that because I think that if the government is going to restore a nation's economic state there are a few sacrifices to be made and it's gonna need a very long time to fully restore it, even a decade is not enough, especially in Indonesia, in which we have a lot of population, separated by archipelagos.

5th Group Topic : Zoning Policy Collide with Indonesia's Culture

• Pro : The group that supported this issue said that the government made this policy not without a purpose, but to further improve school quality and education quality in general. The government's intention was to remove favoritism in terms of school, so that all schools will have the same quality of the students.
• Contra : The opposing group said that the policy is actually unfair, cause there are lots of students that have great potential and knowledge also the will to improve their education and wanted to go to a school that have the supporting facility, not only in terms of material but in the teachers and the quality of the school itself, but cannot apply in the school only because their house is not close enough to the school. while students that do not have that potential, some people that did not even study so hard can apply to the school that have great quality with such an ease. That things made people lose their choices.
• My Opinion : I think perhaps that the government's intention is good but Indonesia is not ready for this kind of system yet. Like, for example, in America they use this kind of system because each one of the schools already have good quality. Schools in Indonesia have such a wide gap in terms of quality. If the government want to increasing it, I think they should have improve the school's quality, not to downgrade some school so that every school would be in the same level.
